Kali is a very respected and important member of the Nursing team at UHS. Her behavioral skill set combined with a high degree of clinical, technical, and role expertise, have made her an asset to our organization. Kali is dependable, reliable and extremely accountable. She is an effective team player who adds complementary skills to our work group and contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. She has an ability to form meaningful bonding relationships with the Nursing staff, and her peers. Her commitment to excellence is evident every day, and in everything, she does. Kali is extremely flexible and dedicated to the organization's purpose and to the well-being of her peers.
Kali has an ability to foster and guide our new staff and help them to successfully transition into their professional practice and the UHS culture. Kali is an integral part of our Nurse Residency Program facilitating the Cardiovascular Curriculum teaching day. GN survey data consistently showed that new nurses reported that they had no confidence in leading a rapid response or CPR event. Kali and the Residency Program Coord evaluated that data and determined a knowledge gap. Kali was an integral part of developing the Code Olympics as a part of the Residency and as a formal research study aimed at benefiting the new graduate nurses. The goal of the study is to improve quantifiable results of new nurses in four categories: performing compressions, defibrillator pad placement and shock delivery, use of a crash cart, and use of BMV. Results have shown quantifiable improvements in skill acquisition and comfort levels. Results of the study have been very positive to date, and will be published once concluded.
A recent Newly Licensed RN said, "Starting my nursing career in the midst of Covid, I was feeling a bit timid of what to expect. The Nurse Residency provided an avenue of open and honest communication, providing a "safe space" to learn and process what I am learning. The Residency allows a hands-on approach to teaching us the things that we may have missed in nursing school. By Kali providing the Code Olympics, new residents are able to refresh and improve our knowledge and skills on what happens during a Code. This was extremely intimidating for me at first, but once I saw that I improved each time, I gained the confidence needed to embrace the challenge!"
Kali's leadership skills are always evident, and she continues to be a positive influence and role model to the staff of our organization. Kali supported the organization in an extraordinary way by agreeing to be redeployed to the Emergency Departments for four months during the Spring of 2020 and again for four months in the Fall of 2021. During those redeployments Kali not only functioned as staff, but also spent countless hours teaching and mentoring the newer ED staff in proper protocols, procedures and care. Several of her peers have this to say about Kali,
"Kali is an exemplary nurse who truly upholds the values of nursing. She continues to improve nursing in variety of ways from supporting nurses in her role as an educator to providing the best care to her patients. She jumps right in without hesitation and goes above and beyond".
"Kali Minier is a phenomenon. She is the rare combination of exceptional clinical skills, exceptional social skills, exceptional teaching skills and exceptional leadership skills. Kali has leant her creative energies to countless projects over the last few years; as a result, her influence and insight permeates the Nursing Education Department and, really, all of UHS. Many educational offerings in UHS, including CPR, Mock Codes, Basic Coronary and the Nurse Residency Program are significantly better because of Kali's curricular building skills. She is a great person, an exceptional nurse, a joy to work with and highly deserving of this award".
As our CPR Program Coordinator, Kali leads our Mock Code program, which she has redeveloped, and it serves as a teaching platform for physicians, nurses, medical residents, and respiratory therapists. Kali lives our UHS Value of Teamwork often teaching outside of the Nursing Division scope to assist medical residents and office staff in attaining high quality code skills.
Kali does not ignore her own professional development. She continually seeks to improve herself. In 2021 Kali advanced to the highest level in our Clinical Ladder professional development program. Kali also obtained her Masters Degree in Nursing Education in 2021. Kali also serves our Nursing Governance structure at UHSH by serving as the Chair of the Nursing Quality Council where her leadership and teamwork skills are invaluable to drive safe patient care initiatives at UHS.
